What is Breathwork?
There are different types of Breathwork: Holotropic, Conscious Connected Breathing also called Rebirithing or Shamanic Breathwork.
Breathwork sessions involve controlling the breath in a specific way to achieve a meditative state in conjunction with music. The practice typically involves deep and continuous inhalation and exhalation through the mouth , with the goal of creating a connection between the body and the mind.

Breathwork sessions typically involve two people, a "breather" and a "sitter," who work together to facilitate the experience. The breather is guided to breathe in a specific rhythm and pattern, while the sitter may provide guidance and support, as well as assist the breather in returning to a normal state of consciousness after the session.
Breathwork is often used to access deeper states of consciousness, promoting self-awareness, emotional balance, and spiritual growth. The Conciscious Connected Breathwork technique is sometimes also called "rebirthing" because it aims to re-create the feeling of being in the womb and the sensation of being born.
Proponents of Breathwork argue that it can help individuals access deeper levels of consciousness, promote self-discovery and personal growth, and even facilitate healing from physical and emotional issues.
The Science behind Breathwork
Rebirthing-Breathwork can be described as a technique that uses the breathing rhythm to activate a somatic- cognitive cycle. When allowed to unfold, this cycle spontaneously brings unresolved issues to consciousness and leads to their resolution.
To investigate whether Holotropic Breathwork™ (HB; Grof Transpersonal Training, Mill Valley, CA) has any significance in the development of self-awareness.
Holotropic breathwork is a therapeutic breathing practice that is intended to help with emotional healing and personal growth. It’s said to produce an altered state of consciousness. The process involves breathing at a fast rate for minutes to hours. This changes the balance between carbon dioxide and oxygen in the body. You are guided through the exercise by someone who is trained in this emotional release modality.

Through questionnaires and measurements of eye blinks and respiration, the researchers determined that the breathwork intervention reduced symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, and respiration rate.
